Our chosen charity partner, Beam, is an organisation helping homeless people and refugees find their feet in society. During our partnership so far, we’ve helped to change the lives of more than 720 people, supporting over 375 individuals into work and nearly 270 people into housing.

This month, our support has made a meaningful impact on the lives of Ruth, Vytautas, and Shafiqullah as they witness their lives begin to transform. Read their full stories below...

Ruth's story

Ruth is a mother to two wonderful children, a boy aged 2 and a girl aged 5. They are her world and what keeps her going. She has been through a lot, including escaping a domestically abusive relationship. This experience has taken a toll on her mental health, but she is taking steps to manage it. Her faith and her children are her pillars of strength during these challenging times.

Ruth used to be a teacher for 12 years, but for the past two years, she has been out of work. She has been applying for jobs in education and IT, but it's been tough. She is eager to get back to work, not just for the income, but also for the sense of purpose and achievement it brings. Ruth is looking for a job that fits around her children's school hours and every other weekend when they are with their dad.

"In two years, I hope to be settled in a stable job, a stable home and provide the life my children deserve."

Vytautas's story

Vytautas has worked as a carpenter and in construction for 11 years, and he would like to return to working in the sector. It's something he has experience in and really enjoys.

Vytautas has been living in a hostel for the last two months. Before that he was sleeping in a park. He had to leave his job because he needed to have a blue CSCS card but he couldn't afford it. This resulted in the loss of his job and home, and he had to sleep rough.

"I really appreciate your support with helping me get back on my feet."

Shafiqullah's story

After coming to the UK from Afghanistan, Shafiqullah has found it extremely difficult to find a proper job for himself. When living in Afghanistan, he previously worked his way up to become a Security Guard for the Ministry of Interior Affairs. But now he is in the UK and struggles to speak very good English, it has been very challenging to secure any type of job.

Now that Shafiqullah has secure housing, his first step will be to start work as a Delivery Driver as it would not only provide him with financial support, but also flexible working hours that would give him more time to work around caring and helping his wife and two children. Once he has completed this and improved his English, in the future, he would like to be trained to work as a Security Guard again so that he can use his skills and be in a job that he enjoys.

"I would be so happy and grateful to everyone who has played a part in helping me to achieve my goals and aspirations."
