Our chosen charity partner, Beam, is an organisation helping homeless people and refugees find their feet in society. During our partnership so far, we’ve helped to change the lives of almost 700 people, supporting over 370 individuals into work and nearly 250 people into housing.

This month, our support has made a meaningful impact on the lives of Nina, Gary, and Stephen as they embark on the path to reaching their dream life. Read their full stories below...

Nina's story

Nina's dream is to eventually become an ICU nurse and she thinks becoming a healthcare assistant will be a great step towards this. She is looking forward to gaining experience in the healthcare industry and becoming part of a team that will help others. Nina believes being a mother has given her a lot of the skills that will make her good at the role of healthcare assistant. As a mother she has learnt the skills of caring for others and patience, especially as her toddler has some additional needs.

In the future Nina wants her life to feel more stable. Having a stable job will hopefully allow her to go to university to study to be a nurse and continue being able to help others.

"I love spending time with my family, this is the thing that brings me the most joy."

Gary's story

The past few years have been some of the toughest Gary has faced. He was a mechanic for 22 years, but COVID resulted in the loss of his job and eventually his home, where he'd lived for 15 years, and ended up sleeping on the streets. Thankfully, he was able to get some support and move into his own flat, which has given him a lot more stability, but he still wants to get back into work. Gary has bills to pay and wants to have a focus in life - something to give him purpose when he wakes up in the morning.

Long term, Gary wants to work with young people and children who are struggling with their mental health, or who have been impacted by the criminal justice system in some way. He wants to use his own experience for good, and stop others going down the path he did when he was younger. He's currently taking a course on child safeguarding and mental health support to get started on this journey.

"I’m looking to get into a job that can help me make ends meet, and allow me to treat my daughter and grandson from time to time. It's been a challenging journey, but I'm hopeful for the future and determined to find something meaningful and fulfilling."

Steven's story

Steven has been in a tough space for the past 18 months. Looking back, he had a good relationship with two kids, a house they rented for 10 years, and a job as a floor layer for almost the same amount of time.

However, things have changed. The relationship ended, he lost his job, and he's been sofa surfing for about 18 months now. He's tired of this instability, and his friends need their own space. He just wants to get back on his feet by working and finding a place to rent.

"My main focus is to provide my children with the life they truly deserve, so I'm aiming to get back into construction or find work in a warehouse. With Beam's assistance, I have the best opportunity to turn that goal into a reality."
