Our chosen charity partner, Beam, is an organisation helping homeless people and refugees find their feet. During our partnership so far, we’ve helped to change the lives of over 600 people - supporting over 300 individuals into work and over 150 people into housing.

This month, we have helped Dean, Leanne and Corazon get one step closer to the life they have always dreamed of. Read their full stories below...

Dean's story

Dean's current housing situation is not great, and it's difficult for him to manage finances without a job. Previously, he has worked in various roles, such as warehouses and labouring, but his dream for the future is to find a career he can pursue.

He has been interested in carpentry for a long time, as wood was his favourite medium to work with when he worked in labouring. Having a CSCS card would help Dean a lot, so he is keen to do this and get a construction job.

Dean is a keen footballer who plays every week in the Sunday League. He would like a job for many reasons, but mainly he just enjoys working and finds it good for his wellbeing and mental health.

"Knowing there is support out there is really encouraging, and I'm really grateful for it. This is definitely something that I'm really happy to be a part of."

Leanne's story

Leanne's priority is the well-being of her two children. She has faced a lot of challenges in her life recently. Most significantly, Leanne and her children don't have a home to call their own right now.

Leanne is living with her family after leaving a relationship of financial abuse which has left her with considerable debt. She really wants to get back into work. Not only to help her current financial situation, but also because she genuinely wants to work again. Her last job was in a pub, which she enjoyed, but right now Leanne cannot work a job involving late night shifts.

She is open to any role which allows her to balance her commitments to childcare. Childcare is one of the main things which make finding work for Leanne difficult.

"I'm quite a minimalist, so for me my dream is having a home for me and my kids and living a simple, non-toxic life!"

Corazon's story

The last few months have been stressful for Corazon. She lost her job as a housekeeper at the same time as her landlord demanded she leave the premises. They didn't have an official contract, so it was difficult to know what her rights were, and he eventually became aggressive and started trespassing. Corazon felt very unsafe and scared there.

However, things started to change when she started work as a Hospital Host, delivering food to patients. Corazon used to be a nurse back in the Philippines, so it's the perfect role for her. She is hoping to move into a new property with a friend soon, which she says will make her feel a lot more safe and happy.

"My dream is to save up some money to go back to the Philippines and see my children and 3 grandchildren - it has been so long since I've seen them, and I miss them all terribly. I am incredibly grateful for all the support Beam has given me, and for your donations too."
