Kirsten Burt, MBA, shares her thoughts on why it's important for business leaders to champion diversity. This interview took place at our Women in Financial Services Marketing event on 8th February, 2024.
I think it's important for leadership to champion diversity, because that's who our customers are, that's who our clients are. We know that we need to understand who we're selling to and who we're marketing to to be successful commercially, at board and corporate level. So if you don't understand your next gen of clients, if you don't understand your female clients, you're not going to be as successful.
Women control 80% of commercial decisions; they're going to control 62-65% of wealth in the future, if not already. So if we don't champion diversity into our businesses as a commercial driver, it's not just nice to have, it's survival in a lot of these businesses.
I think the more we can talk diversity in a language that boardrooms understand, which is about commercial drivers, the more tangible and real it becomes as part of your business decisions.
