Hi, my name is Hayley Jones, and I am Principal Consultant within the Bid recruitment team at 3Search.  

I largely specialise in the recruitment of bids management, pursuits and proposals jobs. The roles I typically recruit for span from Coordinators, all the way to Heads of and Directors. 

I partner with a wide range of companies, from SMEs through to global organisations across a variety of industries, from business services to professional services. These companies could be based anywhere in the UK, including Greater Manchester and the West Midlands.

I have always considered myself a people person, and quite frankly, you can’t do this job without being able to pick up the phone and talk to someone. Being able to sell, no matter whether it’s a product, service, or candidate, is definitely one of my main strengths.  

The market is currently flooded with jobs yet is experiencing a lack of candidates, so a key piece advice for candidates right now would be to be open to change. If you have been in a similar role or industry for many years, maybe it’s time to test the waters and try something new. This is the best way to utilise and apply your current strengths to something else and progress in your career.  

If you are currently hiring, my key insight would be to have 100% flexibility. The working world is constantly changing. More and more businesses are introducing policies, such as hybrid working or 4-day working weeks, meaning you might have to broaden your criteria to find the perfect candidate for your company. For example, you might be missing out on the perfect employee if you don’t consider them for only being able to come into the office 2 days a week. You don’t want to risk searching for something that doesn’t exist.  

As an employer, you also need to ensure that you are making an effort to sell the role for your candidates, just as much as they are making an effort with you and your company! It’s a two-way process.  

Lots of people are worrying about the cost-of-living crisis and the affect this is having on the jobs market. Something that needs to be emphasised is that the number of jobs available are absolutely not being impacted by this, they do not correlate.
