In summer 2024, our recruiters partnered with Medical Tracker, a leading cloud-based system for student and staff health management, to hire product talent. As a fast-scaling business, they needed to hire talent to focus on product development and free-up the Co-founders' time.
To ensure they had the right level of support, they engaged our specialist product recruiter, Francesca Jackson, on a retained search. Following a thorough talent search, Francesca sourced an excellent Product Lead to allow the business to continue to grow.
Established in 2015, Medical Tracker was created to address the challenges of managing health records in educational institutions. Their cloud-based system enables the recording and tracking of injuries, illnesses, accident investigations, care plans, and medication administration, all while enhancing communication with parents, carers, and staff.
In 2024, they are trusted by over 96,000 school staff across more than 2,600 schools. At this point in their growth journey, the Co-founders needed to step away from the product to focus on scaling the business. As such a crucial role for their growth, they chose to engage a specialist recruitment partner.
Medical Tracker’s Co-founders knew they needed to hire someone to lead product development and bridge the gaps between the engineering team, Founders and customer. But, as their first product hire, they were unsure which job title was right for the business.
Additionally, at this point, the company was only 8 heads. With limited hiring experience, they needed someone to lead the direction of the recruitment process. That's where Francesca Jackson stepped in.
Francesca began the search by defining the role. She worked closely with the Co-founders to understand the business, the product and its requirements. By doing this, she was able to combine her understanding of the product industry and the business to write the job description. They decided that a Product Lead would be suitable for their requirements, as they needed someone who could lead development and be hands-on with the product.
Having built the job description, Francesca mapped the UK recruitment market to understand who was available for the role and what interested them in the company. This allowed the hiring team to adjust the salary and benefits package where needed.
As this was their first product hire, Francesca brought in an external consultant from her product network to offer impartial advice on candidates. This allowed the Founders to feel comfortable and confident in their final hiring decision.
The successful hire means that the product and business can continue to grow alongside one another. Working alongside the Managing Director, the Product Lead will deliver global market growth and we’re incredibly excited to see where the business goes next!
