House of Hackney was founded in 2011 by husband and wife, Frieda Gormley and Javvy M Royle. The luxury interior design retailer is driven by their founding principles of creativity with purpose, integrity in actions and compassion for people and planet. Today, they’re continuing to create unique and inspiring designs that will stand the test of time.
Our work with House of Hackney
We first started working with House of Hackney in 2024 when they were searching for a Senior Digital Designer. They had been struggling to identify the right talent directly, so needed the support of a design recruitment agency to hire successfully.
Re-writing the Senior Digital Designer job description
House of Hackney were searching for a designer with real strengths in ecommerce site design, but also capable of upholding and translating the brand’s heritage and luxury aesthetic across all channels. They were also searching for someone with creative sensibilities who could confidently work alongside senior stakeholders and the founders.
Such a particular brief was restricting the talent pool, so design recruiter, Yasmin Vachet, worked with the Omnichannel Director to re-work the job description. Together they identified the non-negotiable aspects of the hire. From there, Yasmin headhunted candidates who met the criteria and could upskill in other areas. She used her knowledge of the brand to market the role and business to potential hires.
Crafting an effective recruitment process
Yasmin worked closely with the team to craft an interview process that allowed candidates to meet all key decision makers. This included creating a task brief that allowed candidates to showcase the relevant skills, giving House of Hackney the confidence to hire.
Through management of the entire process, including when the hiring manager went on annual leave, House of Hackney hired an excellent Senior Digital Designer for the team.
