Introducing a new digital design role

In the summer of 2024, our specialist design recruiter, Yasmin Vachet, partnered with luxury menswear brand, Frescobol Carioca, on a Digital Designer role. This job description was different from other designers they had in the team. With a new set of responsibilities and skills required, they chose to work with a specialist recruitment agency to support their talent search.

Introducing a new digital design role

The story of Frescobol Carioca

Launched in 2013, Frescobol Carioca was established to share the Rio way of life. Inspired by the vibrant spirit of Rio de Janeiro, they create high-quality menswear that embodies the laid-back elegance of Brazilian beach culture.

Since their launch, the brand has continued to expand, grow and diversify. They have needed to create new digital roles to allow them to continue with their expansion and bring the essence of Rio's lifestyle to customers around the globe.

Challenge: A new digital design role

Although design recruitment isn’t new to Frescobol Carioca, they needed to bring a new type of Designer into the brand to meet business needs.

With a strict budget in place, first Yasmin worked with the hiring manager to refine the job description. Together they agreed on what skills were non-negotiable in a candidate’s profile, and which were “wish list” factors.

The two core non-negotiables were:

  1. Experience in luxury/premium brands
  2. Company culture fit in a founder-led environment

To meet these metrics, Yasmin leveraged her network of Digital Designers in the luxury sector, focussing on those who would complement the existing team.

Solution: Consultative and informative recruitment process

There were three key steps to ensuring a smooth recruitment process:

#1 Set timelines for the project

As the recruitment process took place in August, it was important to set out clear timelines in advance. Yasmin made sure she kept on top of these timelines, quickly communicating any changes to ensure no delays caused by annual leave.

#2 Presented different options for the available budget

Working with a set budget doesn’t need to limit your choices. Yasmin shared insights around what the brand could afford with their budget, presenting different options for more senior hires. For instance, the hiring manager could engage a more senior Designer on a four-day work week.

#3 Consistently communicated with candidates

With candidates in multiple hiring processes, Yasmin maintained close communication with everyone involved. This ensured Frescobol Carioca has the strongest shortlist at the final stage.

Result: Offer accepted within 4 weeks

Thanks to an organised and efficient recruitment process, Frescobol Carioca hired their preferred Digital Designer in just four weeks. The brand is incredibly pleased with the addition to their team, and we are continuing to support them with design and ecommerce recruitment.
