As the Bid Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end bid process for high-value and strategic opportunities within the Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) sector. Leading a team of four Bid Writers, you will ensure the production of compelling, high-quality bid submissions that align with the company’s strategic goals, market positioning, and customer requirements.

This pivotal role involves line management, coaching, and development of your team, while also taking ownership of key bids, ensuring processes are adhered to, and driving continuous improvement in the company’s bid function.


Key Responsibilities:

Bid Management:

  • Lead and manage the end-to-end bid process for all key opportunities, ensuring timely and high-quality submissions.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (e.g., technical teams, project managers, estimators) to gather relevant information and insights to support bids.
  • Ensure compliance with client requirements, identifying and addressing risks or gaps in submissions.
  • Act as the main point of contact for customer communications during the bid process.

Team Leadership:

  • Line manage a team of four Bid Writers, providing clear direction, regular feedback, and professional development opportunities.
  • Allocate workload and resources effectively across the team, ensuring deadlines are met without compromising quality.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, creativity, and continuous improvement within the bid writing team.

Content Development & Quality Assurance:

  • Oversee the creation of high-quality, persuasive content that reflects the company’s strengths, value propositions, and technical expertise.
  • Drive innovation in bid submissions, ensuring the use of engaging visuals, infographics, and compelling narratives.
  • Review and refine bid documents to ensure they are customer-focused, error-free, and aligned with brand guidelines.

Strategic Contribution:

  • Work closely with senior leadership to align bid strategy with broader business objectives.
  • Analyse bid outcomes and feedback to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain a library of reusable bid content, ensuring it remains up-to-date and relevant.

Compliance & Reporting:

  • Ensure all bids comply with company policies, procedures, and legal obligations.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to senior leadership on bid performance, win rates, and team productivity.


Key Skills & Experience Required:

  • Experience: Proven track record in bid management within the M&E or construction industry.
  • Leadership: Experience managing and mentoring a team, with the ability to inspire and motivate.
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with M&E services and the technical requirements of the sector.
  • Bid Expertise: Strong understanding of bid processes, best practices, and customer-centric writing.
  • Project Management: Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • IT Skills: Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and bid management tools (e.g., InDesign, CRM systems).


Qualifications:

  • Degree in English, Business, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • APMP Foundation or Practitioner Certification is highly desirable.
