What does a Head of Bid Management do?


The Head of Bids is a strategic, senior level role responsible for crafting and implementing a comprehensive bid strategy. This role will lead the bid management team to ensure efficient, smooth bid processes.


Key responsibilities

The job description will vary from business to business, but the main responsibilities include:

  • Lead the strategy: Define and implement the bidding strategy to meet business development goals.
  • Commercial management: Stay up to date with the market and competitors. Identify business development opportunities .
  • Develop brand guidelines: Set brand guidelines for presentations, pitch and tender documents.
  • Manage the bid team: Manage, lead and train a team of Bid Writers, Proposal Managers and Pitch Designers. Ensure all bid materials are of a high-quality and adhere to defined standards.
  • Report on team activity: Build a model to measure the cost and time spent on bids. Use this information to inform edits to the strategy and keep key stakeholders up to date with relevant information.
  • Manage budgets and relationships: Manage the budget for the bid team and relationships with third-party suppliers.

Average salary for a Head of

The average salary for a permanent, full time Head of Bids role is £95,000 - £130,000. For a contractor, they can expect a day rate of £700 - £1,000.
