What does a Digital Marketing Executive do?


A key part of any marketing team, the Digital Marketing Executive is responsible for executing the digital strategy. The role's main objective is to grow and optimise digital channels to advertise a business' products and services. Channels include (but are not limited to) search engine optimisation (SEO), social media management and email marketing.


Key responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Executive largely depends on the digital marketing channels a business invests in. Nevertheless, the main duties include:

  • Support digital marketing efforts: Work closely with agencies and internal teams to plan and implement activity across digital platforms. This can include SEO, CRM, paid advertising, social media and website.
  • Lead generation: Partner with the CRM and performance marketing to execute campaigns that generate high-quality leads.
  • Maintain digital presence: Regularly review the website, social media platforms and more, making updates to content where necessary.
  • Reporting: Work with the Digital Marketing Manager to report on campaign performance. 
  • Stay up to date with trends: Monitor competitors' activity. Plus, identify trends a brand can use to optimise spend and performance.

The average salary for a permanent Digital Marketing Executive is £28,000 - £45,000. Meanwhile, a contractor can expect a day rate of £150 - £225.
