Marketing salaries have increased

Our data has revealed an average salary increase of 7.7% in the last 12 months. Though marketers were not the highest earners according to the results of our salary survey, with product management salaries being higher, pay continued to rise. Almost half of all marketers who responded to our salary survey reported receiving a pay rise.

We highly recommend benchmarking your pay brackets to attract and retain talent, especially if your business hasn’t hired over the past 12 months.

What influences salaries?

A number of factors influence pay brackets, which is why our guides reveal salary ranges for each job title. For a more accurate number, we highly recommend speaking to our expert recruiters for guidance.

The top three factors to consider are:

#1 Seniority

Perhaps the most obvious factor is the seniority of the role. Of course, a Marketing Director's salary will be higher than a Marketing Executive salary. However, pay can also vary based on the years of experience that the Marketing Director has. Someone moving into their first Director job will have lower salary expectations than someone with several years leading the marketing strategy.

To access a more experienced marketer, businesses have been "thinking creatively with their hiring budgets,” says Director, Liz Hopkins. Hiring a contractor with lower working hours, for instance, frees up the budget to hire a true marketing leader. Find day rates in our salary guide!

#2 Industry

Sector also plays a significant role in deciding salaries. The highest paying industries tend to be those that are more regulated. For instance, the technology and financial services industries were the highest paying according to our salary survey results. This is because they tend to require more industry knowledge to deliver effective marketing campaigns to their target audiences.

#3 Company size

Lastly, the size of the business can also play a significant role. Start-ups tend to have lower marketing budgets, resulting in smaller hiring budgets. That doesn't make them any less attractive to candidates, however. Smaller businesses tend to offer more enticing benefits packages.

For instance, flexible working can be more common in smaller companies. This is the second most important consideration for job seekers in 2025.

What is the average marketing salary?

With salaries continuing to rise, it's important to benchmark your marketing team's pay brackets to attract and retain staff. So, what is the average earnings for a marketer? According to the results of our salary survey, the average marketing salary ranges between £90,000 - £109,999.*

*58% of marketing respondents were 'Head of Marketing' level or above.

Chief Marketing Officer salary

The highest paid role in marketing is the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) role. Depending on the above factors, they can earn anywhere between £130,000 - £220,000.

As mentioned, to engage a CMO, many businesses are choosing a contractual or part-time option. People often refer to this as a Fractional CMO. Download our salary guide above to access contract rates.

Head of Marketing salary

Meanwhile, a Head of Marketing can expect to earn between £70,000 - £125,000 in the UK. The 'Head of' role is a good option for those needing a leader to build marketing plans and guide a team. However, they are less experienced than CMOs and Directors.

Marketing Manager salary

To execute marketing activities, brands need to engage Marketing Managers. They can expect to earn £45,000 - £70,000 depending on experience, industry and company size.

Recruitment trends in 2025

55% of hiring managers told us they intend to hire in 2025, with marketing roles as their top priority. We expect recruitment to only increase as the year progresses and companies understand the impact of UK policy changes. To ensure you attract the right talent, we advise moving quickly on hiring plans.

What are marketers looking for in their job search?

Two-thirds of marketers told us they would be searching for a new role this year. The main motivations for job searches are:

  1. Increased pay
  2. A new challenge
  3. Improved career prospects

Outside of pay, it's clear that marketers are putting their careers first in 2025. Many candidates were in 'survival mode' in 2023, with high levels of redundancy making it difficult to focus on career growth. Now, with redundancy rates falling, marketers are able to prioritise moving their career on.

If you're hiring this year, be sure to highlight the future that candidates can expect at your business. By investing in your team, your team will be sure to invest in you.
