Why download our digital marketing salary survey?

The results from our Annual Pay & Hiring Survey revealed that 65% of digital marketers intend to search for a new role in 2025. With pay as the top priority in a new role, it's crucial for brands to review digital salaries to retain and attract staff.

Our 2025 guide reveals the average salary data for a wide range of digital job titles. This means you'll be prepared for any hire you need to make.

Salaries have increased in the UK

According to our data, salaries have risen by an average of 7.7% over the past 12 months. The ONS reflects this data, with an average increase of 5.2% across the nation. So, if you haven't hired digital marketing talent in the past year, we highly recommend benchmarking your pay brackets.

Additionally, just 41% of digital marketers received a pay rise in 2024.

Economic pressures are continuing to impact individuals. Candidates are relying on higher salaries to meet increasing costs. The S&P Global Consumer Sentiment Index, says the cost-of-living crisis “led to an erosion of disposable income, as households [...] are increasingly relying on their savings to meet their expenses.” As a result, underpaid talent will certainly lead to attrition.

What influences digital marketing salaries?

Outside of policy changes, many factors influence how much a Digital Marketing Manager should earn. Here are the top three factors to consider:

  • Company size: The size of the business and marketing team largely dictates pay. Smaller businesses usually have a smaller budget to attract talent. However, they often provide better benefits packages overall, offering larger or more frequent bonuses, learning and development opportunities or flexible working.
  • Industry: The sector also plays a significant role in determining salary. Those industries that require more niche, technical knowledge - such as healthcare, tech or financial services - will often pay more. Candidates with this specialist knowledge can be rare, so these industries offer higher pay to secure top talent.
  • Experience: Companies can also expect to pay more for more experienced talent. For instance, a Digital Marketing Exec with 2 years' experience can command a higher salary than someone who is searching for their first job. The former requires less training and can support the digital marketing strategy immediately. However, an entry-level candidate will need dedicated training.

2025 marketing recruitment trends

In our Annual Pay & Hiring Survey, 55% of all hiring managers told us they would be hiring in 2025. This number increases to 66% when looking at just those within digital marketing. We expect talent to be in high-demand this year, with recruitment increasing as the months progress.

Hiring will build as the year progresses

Though optimistic, business leaders seem to be entering 2025 with a sense of uncertainty.

Global political changes are still taking effect, making it difficult for brands to effectively plan their strategies. For instance, the new UK government will be introducing the following changes in April:

  • The rate of employer National Insurance will increase by 1.2%
  • The National Living Wage is increasing from £11.44 to £12.21 an hour
  • Business rates relief for the hospitality, retail and leisure sectors will decrease from 75% to 40%

Additionally, businesses are yet to see the impact of the new US government and the impact on trade agreements.

Goldman Sachs economists predict “inflationary pressures to ease through 2025”, resulting in higher spending from consumers and businesses alike. Consequently, we expect recruitment to build a steady momentum throughout the year.

What are candidates looking for?

The top three reasons why digital marketers are looking for a new job in 2025 are:

  1. Increased pay
  2. Better company culture
  3. A new challenge

Beyond benchmarking your salaries and offering the market rate, we recommend ensuring your employer branding and benefits are clear.

Selling the opportunity and offering candidates stability will be key to attract and retain talent this year. In conversations with candidates, our recruiters find that ‘stability’ is at the forefront of their minds. Employees want reassurance that their jobs are safe due to high levels of redundancies over the past two years. To do this, it's important to move with confidence through hiring processes.

Companies who hesitate to present an offer to candidates or make a lower offer than expected risk making candidates nervous.
