The main motivator for a job search in 2025 is higher pay, with 59% of employees moving jobs specifically for a pay rise. Why? Salaries increased by an average of 7.7% in 2024, however, less than half of our survey respondents received a pay raise. Those that missed out are actively searching for new opportunities.

Even if hiring managers do not intent to hire this year, unplanned recruitment is highly likely. To effectively attract and retain talent, it's important to benchmark your content and social media marketing salaries.

What does the guide include?

2025 content and social media recruitment trends

In our latest salary survey, 55% of hiring managers told us they would be hiring in 2025. While this number is lower than last year, we expect hiring intent to grow as the year progresses.

Recruitment to grow as the year progresses

At the start of the year, political changes around the world are still taking effect. This makes it difficult for brands to confidently plan their business strategies. For instance, the changes coming into effect in April are likely to directly impact hiring plans, including:

  • The rate of employer National Insurance will increase by 1.2%
  • The National Living Wage is increasing from £11.44 to £12.21 an hour
  • Business rates relief for the hospitality, retail and leisure sectors will decrease from 75% to 40%

Goldman Sachs economists predict “inflationary pressures to ease through 2025”, resulting in higher spending from consumers and businesses alike. So, we expect recruitment to build a steady momentum throughout the year.

Social media and content skills are in high-demand

This year, companies are heavily focused on hiring social media and content professionals. The skill set is the fourth most in-demand, just behind data and analytics.

Director, Michael Judkins, was not surprised by these results, commenting, “Digital and marketing teams need a balance of analytical and creative minds to be successful in 2025. So, it’s no surprise to see Data & Analytics and Social Media & Content so high up the list of priorities for employers."

Attracting staff is practically impossible without the right salary on offer. Download our salary guide to ensure you're offering the right pay to hire in 2025.

What else are candidates looking for in a new job?

Outside of pay, the biggest drivers for a new role in 2025 are:

  1. A new challenge
  2. Improved career prospects
  3. Better company culture

The response to our salary survey reveals that many employees no longer feel challenged in their role. Employees have a clear desire to grow and learn beyond what their current role can offer them. When thinking about retention in 2025, consider whether your promotion plans are clear for your team. Do they know what they need to achieve to continue to be successful within your organisation
