Our chosen charity partner is Beam, an organisation helping homeless people and refugees find their feet.

During our partnership so far, we’ve helped to change the lives of over 600 people - supporting over 300 individuals into work and over 150 people into housing.

This month, we have raised a total of £1,200 helping Tetiana, Liliia and Thomas get one step closer to the life they have always dreamed of. Read their full stories below...

Tetiana's story

Tetiana moved to the UK when the war in Ukraine left her in an unstable housing situation. In Ukraine, Tetiana was a veterinary surgeon, but unfortunately her English is not yet good enough for her to take the courses needed to be accredited here.

Tetiana would like to start working as a carer for the time-being because she has previous experience of working with the elderly in Ukraine and something she is passionate about. Tetiana believes it's important for the elderly to be heard and helped and so thinks working in care will also be good practice for her English.

“I have met with good, kind people in the UK and I'm happy that I'm here with my children. I love animals and hope that soon my English will be good enough for me to pass my exams and work as a vet again!”

Thomas' story

Thomas has always worked in construction, but recently he has found regular work harder to find. His CSCS card (the card which permits Thomas to work on construction sites) has expired hasn't which hasn't helped his situation, as without it he is unable to work.

Thomas has been able to find irregular work, but it's not enough and his financial situation is deteriorating.

With the job market now mostly existing online, Thomas is finding it difficult to work as he struggles with technology. Beam is helping him practice these skills he is now feeling more confident in applying for jobs online himself.

“I've already started to see the benefits as employers are already responding to my applications with offers for interviews. This has motivated me to keep moving forward and making progress.”

Liliia's story

Liliia's housing situation has been complicated. Recently, she had to return to Ukraine with her child when her husband was injured in the war. Since then, she has been able to return to work but has had to find a new place to live. Her sponsor could no longer spare the room they were staying in.

The hardest part for Liliia was that she didn't know the language, making it difficult to find stable housing and work. She hopes to find work in the medical field, as this is what she did in Ukraine and she misses that part of her life.

"I believed that with determination and strength, we would overcome our situation and create a new life where we could be content, bring happiness to our family, and continue making a positive impact on the lives of others."
