What does a Bid Manager do?


The Bid Manager role is responsible for securing contracts through competitive bidding processes. At Manager-level, candidates are capable of running small to mid-size bids from beginning to end. Meanwhile, Senior Managers can support on larger bids.


Key responsibilities

While the job description will vary based on team structure and the business development strategy, the key responsibilities include:

  • Lead bid lifecycle: Lead the entire bidding process. From opportunity assessment through to the drafting of SQs/RFIs, tender submissions and pitch presentations.
  • Pitch preparation: Organise presentation rehearsals to prepare proposal teams. Provide feedback in these sessions to ensure you have the winning bid submission.
  • Analyse feedback: Gather and analyse bid and tender feedback to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Manage content library: Regularly refresh the bid content library. Thig might include CVs, case studies, policies, social value information, client service delivery and more!
  • Track opportunities: Identify tender opportunities by monitoring relevant hubs and portals.
  • Team management: Depending on the team, the Manager might be responsible for training, managing and leading Bid Executives.


Skills and requirements

  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications, document management systems, tender portals, finance systems and CRM systems

  • Strong organisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects at once

Average Bid Manager salaries

The average salary for a full time, permanent Bid Manager is £65,000 - £80,000. Meanwhile, a contractor can expect a day rate of £400 - £700.
