Category: 3Search Updates

Merry Christmas all!

As well as using this blog to share useful advice and insights on the marketing and communications sector, we also want to keep you updated on 3Search as a new business. We’ve been writing roughly quarterly since we started back in 2014 (you can check out the full series of posts here), giving progress updates and some insight on what it’s like to be running a start-up in London.

What a year it’s been. January — and the chance to hide away the mince pies for another year, can’t come quick enough for some of the portlier members of the 3Search team (not naming any names… Andy). The new Victoria Gym Box, conveniently right beside the 3Search office, is going to need to produce some miraculous results. At times running a business can become all-consuming, with the consequence being that 3Search is looking a little more like 3 ¾ Search right now…

The team continues to grow in number (rather than just the size of the directors) too. I’d like to welcome our latest addition, Lucy Bolland. Lucy’s recent joining gives a nice balance of genders in the office now but does mean that we’ve now squeezed in as many desks as is possible in our current home, and we’ll be moving to new offices in the New Year.

With the team continuing to gradually grow, we’re really working hard on building a strong team spirit and a shared passion for 3Search. During the holiday’s, this means decorating the office, despite the office Scrooge’s protest (Andy… come on, it’s Christmas!). We all have advent calendars (though they may have been mostly devoured already!) and the secret Santa draw has already been made (I got Joe – Regaine already purchased!).

We think it’s important for a team to bond away from the office occasionally because in a small group in a fast-growing company genuinely getting along with one another makes life much easier. The Christmas party, this coming Friday, will be at the chef’s table in Jason Atherton’s City Social, followed by some karaoke (yes, we’re those people!). Andy’s already put together a set list that spans, at least, three pages, so the rest of us may as well decamp to the pub while he continues to pursue his dream of being signed up by Simon Cowell. It’s just one example of the ways we get the team together outside of work. It should be a cracking afternoon and I’m thoroughly looking forward to it!

The Christmas holiday also provides an example of our approach to flexible working. In addition to our unlimited vacation time (see more here) policy, we also aim to be as flexible as possible in work arrangements — meaning that flexible hours and remote working are often encouraged.

In this vein, everyone’s last day in the 3Search office until the New Year will be this Friday. The whole team will have the chance to spend the holiday at home with their friends and family and work remotely for two weeks while recharging their batteries after a year of hard work.

Since our last update (way back in August — boy does that feel like a long time ago now!) we’ve also kicked off a series of networking events, bringing together groups of senior leaders in the marketing and digital space. We held a great event in the fantastic EY offices in London Bridge, where we had the pleasure of hearing from Matt Perry (former England and British Lions rugby player) and James Meekins (one of the founders of Funding Circle). We’re planning on expanding the programme in the New Year and have lots of exciting ideas for our new events, so watch this space! We also had the opportunity to attend the MARA’s (Marketing and Digital Recruitment Awards) last month, and although we only got a ‘highly commendable’ in the ‘Best Newcomer’ category we celebrated like we had won the Best Recruitment Agency in the world ever!! I’m sure you’ll hear the stories in the pub next year!

As we reach the end of 3Search’s first full calendar year in business, now is a good time to thank all of the people who we have had the opportunity to work with. It’s been a fantastic year, and we’ve really enjoyed the experience of taking the company from a just the three of us working from a living room to a seven-person (and growing) firm in Victoria.

We have huge plans for 3Search in 2016 and look forward to continuing to share regular updates with you.

From all of the 3Search team Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
