Category: 3Search Updates

As our 4th birthday starts to creep onto the horizon later in the summer, I’ve been meaning to pause and reflect on the past 12 months or so since we last wrote an update blog. As you can imagine, it’s continued to be a roller coaster of a journey but luckily we’ve had lots more ups than downs. It certainly now feels like a long time ago when we were working out of each other’s flats and cooking each other lunch, during the first couple of months of running the business!

With over 30 people now across the 11 Investments group, the biggest daily struggle outside of our day jobs is who gets their turn on the office Sonos system and who’s turn it is on the table tennis table. Quite the evolution over the past few years!

Location…location

Arguably the biggest change over the past 12 months has been our move of office from Victoria where we’d spent the first 3 years of 3Search in 2 different offices. We’d outgrown the space in Victoria but when summer comes around I certainly think we will all miss the garden space we had! We were able to secure an office very close to Soho on Oxford Street. It’s been a brilliant location and the team have done a great job in getting to know the local bars and pubs! Dirty Harry’s in Soho has become a regular hang out for a few of our team! Not naming any names…

We will be on the move again before too long, so when we end up moving office, the table tennis table will be the most important thing to come with us!

Growth, growth and more growth

The last 12 months have seen a lot of new faces join the business and fortunately, everyone has settled in so well it feels like a lot of them have been with us for years. Our initial strategy of having a mix of ‘job type’ specialists and ‘sector’ specialists has continued to be the right way to grow our brand and we’ve welcomed some fantastic new faces to the business.

The financial and professional services teams have grown under Olly and David’s guidance, with Lucy Durno and Charlotte Titmuss joining those teams. Katie Ruskin has also recently joined to support David in the Bids and Business Development area. Michael’s ‘Consumer’ team has seen Jasmin Eastwood and Emily Purkhardt join and hit the ground running while Andy Larkin has done a great job as our CRM specialist over the last 12 months.

Our ‘tech’ team has also grown, with Kevin Keegan Yates (the story on the name is a whole blog in itself) joining us as a digital product focused recruiter. Kevin works alongside our ‘tech’ queens Kate Greentree and Lucy Bolland who have been growing the UX/UI and tech/dev side of our business. One of our other business aims in 2018 was to grow our interim/contractor function, which is being led by Darryl Corley who has made a fantastic start since joining at the end of 2017.

Succession planning

While the biggest change in the last 12 months may have been the location, one thing has remained consistent within the business and that’s been our senior consultants and managers. While Michael ‘Judders’ Judkins has continued to do a great job managing and growing his team, we’ve also managed to move Richard Longstreet, Olly Amos and David Wall through the business into man-management jobs and move their careers forward in the process. Seeing them take on more senior roles within the business has been hugely rewarding for us as Directors and one of the challenges we’ve enjoyed the most since starting the business.

We’re spending more time than ever focused on how we can move others through the business and identifying our next group of managers too, with a real focus on trying to grow organically.

Celebrating Success and winning awards

We’ve worked hard to build a digitally focused recruitment brand making the most out of tools like LinkedIn, so when they recognised us as one of the most socially engaging recruitment companies in Europe, it was a real acknowledgement that we were on track with our broader growth plan.

Throughout the year we’ve had some great celebrations with the team including a day out clay pigeon shooting (where Charlotte was invited to join the local shooting club as she was so good!) and also an afternoon on the Olympic white water rafting course, with a few of us spending more time in the water than the rafts…

We want to continue to reward top performers within the business and last week took some of the team to Cheltenham for the races. We’re ramping up the rewards with a trip to New York in 2019 for those of us who hit our targets throughout the year. So, stacks of exciting things to look forward too, but before we get ahead of ourselves, there’s a lot to achieve in the meantime!
